COUSINS . . . and MATRIMONIAL CAKE

Oksana wrote to Marilyn:  On the left my grandma Yulia Zavalska (Dudtchak), on the right, her sister Marija Vovk (Dudtchak) and in the middle their mother, my great grandmother Maryna Dudtchak (Leschushun) - sister of Anna Leschushun

 RELATIONS
Two of the Sisters in Ukraine

ANNE (m. Leschyshyn)                           MARY (m. Dudtchak)

Their children were First Cousins

MARY (m. Stadnyk)                                 YULIA (m. Zavaiska or Zavalska)
WES Leschasin                                          MARY (m. Vowchyk or Volk)
MYRON Leschyshyn
NELLIE (m. Zatwarnicki)
FLORENCE (m. Makar)
                                                ************
Anne’s grandchildren (like me) are Second Cousins to Yulia’s children.

Yulia’s children:

MYRON Zavaiski
MIROSLAVA (m. Tereshchuk)
MARIA (m. Kalin)

************

So Miroslava is my second cousin.  That makes her children my second cousins once removed.

Miroslava’s Children:

SERHEI Tereshchuk
OKSANA (m. Bedenko)
PYOTR Tereshchuk

(The little girl in the picture is Oksana's daughter, Julia.)

But my children are Third Cousins with Miroslava’s children!  Not that distant really!

And these guys are fourth cousins . . .

Mom often made DATE/MATRIMONIAL CAKE.    Seems appropriate :)

Bryan found that 2 cups of rolled oats were plenty in the crumble and you can reduce the baking powder from 1 teaspoon to 1/2 teaspoon.

P.S. Thank you to my cousins for sharing the picture of my great-aunt, Maryna Dudtchak!

P.P. S.  I’ve just finished reading a book about a family wedding; full of wonderful, crazy moments and connections: aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws

The last dance at the Delta Wedding was "Should Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot".
This made me think of how we used always to sing "Nam nohi lyita, lyita. .."
